Omar Richards makes Reading FC agents claim amid Bayern Munich success story
Former Reading FC defender Omar Richards said he thought his agent was lying to him about Bayern Munich interest as the left-back lifts the lid on his time so far in Germany. Richards, 24, has been a makeshift option for Julian Nagelsmann, who has rotated the former Royals academy graduate at left wing-back with Canadian star Alphonso Davies. "I think this is the second thing I’ve ever won in professional football! It’s an amazing achievement for myself. "You get to a stage where you have to be realistic with yourself [and say], ‘OK, maybe this isn’t going to work and I need to actually do something else with my life’.
"Around that time, that’s when I started going to Reading and training there. The 24-year-old made his debut for Reading in August 2017 and cemented himself as a key member of the side under then-Royals boss Veljko Paunovic during the 2020/21 season, with his performances seemingly attracting the attention of a number of Premier League clubs. In spite of Reading's desire to keep their first choice at the time, a shock Bayern Munich approach during the contract standoff meant that it was just an opportunity that Richards himself just couldn't turn down when he got the call from his agent. "I was in the last year of my contract and this was around the time when COVID was a bit crazy," he relayed when recalling the experience. "So even for myself, it was a little bit nerve-wracking. "Reading hadn’t approached me about a contract yet, so I didn’t know what was going to happen.
"It was crazy to hear and when you know such a big club is watching you, it adds a bit of pressure, but you’re excited at the same time. "I didn’t really believe it was true that they were watching me until I was supposed to meet with some of the people from the club.
