Bayern and Chelsea pushing to sign Barcelona assist leader
With just a little over a month left on Ousmane Dembele’s contract at Barcelona, the 25-year-old looks all but guaranteed to leave the club as a free agent in the summer. The Frenchman’s future has been a topic of speculation for a very long time now, but an agreement with Barça has never been close despite protracted negotiations. After a complete breakdown in talks in the early parts of 2022, discussions over a renewal restarted in April after his splendid displays in the second half of the season which saw him finish as the top assist-getter for Barça. But, the two parties remain far with regard to the demands of the player and the offer that the Catalans are putting forth.
So, there is a growing feeling that Dembele will move on at the end of next month. The journalist has claimed that Dembele’s camp is still in discussions with Barcelona, while also adding that he has had an agreement with PSG since January, with the forward’s agent even meeting Les Parisien’s president Nasser Al-Khelaifi. At the same time, there is growing interest in Dembele’s services from Bayern Munich and Chelsea, heading into the summer. Bayern Munich are looking at the prospect of losing Robert Lewandowski, who is a target for Barcelona.
As for Chelsea, the Blues could be looking for an overhaul in attack with the new owners set to take charge. Thomas Tuchel worked with the Frenchman at Borussia Dortmund in the past and could be open to a reunion. The report from Santi Aouna adds that Dembele will make a decision on his future based on the best sporting project he is offered.
